"The Sneak Attack" from Atomic War #1 (Ace Comics; 1952)

Atomic War! was a short-run series published by Ace Comics from November, 1952 to February, 1953.

If the purpose of the series was to warn readers about the horrors of atomic warfare, its execution did just the opposite. Within its stories, U.S. forces employing tactical and strategic nuclear weapons triumphed repeatedly over the Communists foes. Many comics reflected our national paranoia during the Cold War of the 1950s and early 1960s. The first issue cover depicts the nuclear destruction of Manhattan; with the Empire State and Chrysler Buildings prominently crumbling from the blast.

I couldn't find specific writer or artists credits for this issue, but the artwork isn't too bad - - - if you can get past the horrific holocaust that this book depicts. There are two other stories from this issue and they will be forthcoming.

Enjoy! (If you can... )
