Kaänga in “Master of the Moon-Beasts” (Fiction House; 1943)
Kaänga stars today in a beautifully illustrated golden age
adventure from Jungle Comics #42 (June 1943); originally published by Fiction
House. “Master of the Moon-Beasts” was written by [“Frank Riddell”] and fully
drawn & inked by the legendary Reed Crandall. This is the kind of comics
that were meant to be savored, so please consider this an early Christmas
treat. The Catacombs is grateful to Don “Zu-Gogo” Falkos for providing the

Reed Crandall did other work for Fiction House, but none as beautiful as this. I spent many a Saturday afternoon visiting with Reed, talking about comics. He always told me that this was the only job he did for Fiction House, so I was surprised when Roger Hill told me about others.
Chuck: If you would like to check out other early Fiction House work by Reed Crandall, as well as his early work for Lev Gleason for future posts on your blog, you might want to check out FIGHT COMICS #12, February 1941 and FIGHT COMICS #13, June 1941 - both issues feature "Kayo Kirby" by Crandall. Also Lev Gleason's DAREDEVIL COMICS #2 August 1941, #3 September 1941, and #4 October 1941 - all three issues feature "Pat Patriot, America's Joan of Arc" penciled by Frank Borth and inked by Crandall. The Grand Comic Book Database states that Crandall did not work on these DAREDEVIL COMICS but Frank Borth, in an interview, stated that Reed inked these stories for him.
