Farewell to the 31st Century (at least for now)!

DC Comics has announced that the current version of the venerable silver age, Superman-family title, The Legion of Super-Heroes will be cancelled with issue #50, written by Jim Shooter and drawn by Francis Manapul.

This saddens me as the Legion is one of the series that helped make me a lifelong comics fan as a kid. In 2008, we saw the return of the more classic version of the Legionnaires within the pages of Action Comics and a mini-series that utilizes three of the more, modern iterations of the 31st Century team. Apparently the concept will be left on the shelf for a time before it gets another crack at fans wallets.

In the meantime, I would encourage the powers that be at DC Comics to consider returning to the basics of the original concept when they do roll out the Legion once again, better yet, when they do, it might be nice to see something that is stylistically similar to the famed 1970's redesigns of the late Dave Cockrum.

Til then, LONG LIVE THE LEGION!
